2019 Annual Report from our Executive Director

Hope Builders Letter From the Executive Director

Thank you for your support of HopeBUILDERS in 2019! It has been a significant year
for the organization including several milestone events. In 2019, the HopeBUILDERS
Board of Trustees decided to expand the organization’s paid staff in order to grow to
meet more of the need for our services in the community.
Early in 2019, we expanded the Volunteer/Program Coordinator position to a full-time
position, to allow for better client interaction as well as to continue volunteer coordination
duties. I was also hired in September 2019 as the full-time Executive Director, working
closely with Greg Wayne, who continues to serve the organization as Operations Director.
In 2019, HopeBUILDERS served 66 unique clients and completed 91 projects. This
includes 36 ramp projects, 27 critical home repairs, 21 accessibility modifications and 7
bathroom reconfigurations. As you may remember, 2018 was a banner year for us on all
fronts. In 2019, we focused our efforts on more volunteer-intensive, major projects, many
of which are multi-part projects.
At the end of 2019, the organization also reached a point where in addition to significant
volunteer support, we have also hired a part-time Home Repair Project Manager, Rod
Bellows, with the skills to provide expertise and guidance to volunteers as they are working
on various projects. This will allow us to continue to grow and serve more clients moving
forward.
Other 2019 Accomplishments include:
• With secured grant funding, purchased a Ford Transit van to haul tools and project
materials and outfitted with shelving.
• In addition to continued financial support through grants, HopeBUILDERS also
received support from 4 new grant sources. Support from individual donors continues
to grow as well.
• Completed the first year of the Federal Home Loan Bank grant, completing eight
significant projects, including one roof, one HVAC, one septic system, one major door
widening and five bathrooms.
• We continue to collaborate with other home repair organizations. To that end,
HopeBUILDERS has been involved in establishing a Home Modification Coalition
of Greater Kansas City.
The numbers and accomplishments of HopeBUILDERS in 2019 only tell part of the
story. The real impact lies in the stories of the clients who felt safer, healthier, and more
comfortable in their own home. Thank you for ensuring that our neighbors live in safety,
comfort and dignity.

Sincerely,
Jamie Roach | Executive Director
