Requesting Assistance
HopeBUILDERS is a collaborative housing repair group, made up of the volunteers of community groups and churches. We assist Kansas City area needy and elderly homeowners with their home repair or disability adaptation needs. We believe that we can collectively do more together to help needy individuals and families to live in safety, comfort and dignity.
Over the years, HopeBUILDERS has adopted project-selection policies based on experiences and to leverage available skills as listed below. All work is at HopeBUILDERS' discretion, based on available skilled volunteers.
Note: HopeBUILDERS is not structured to handle emergency needs.
Qualifications for Homeowner
- Owner must own and live in the house being repaired.
- Owner must have limited personal or family financial resources.
- Owners are traditionally elderly or disabled.
Work HopeBUILDERS can or is willing to undertake
- Wheelchair ramps
- Accessibility Modifications (door widenings)
- Bathroom Repairs and Adaptations
- Floor and wall repairs
- Weatherization
- Minor electrical and plumbing
- Interior and exterior painting
- Exterior wood replacement (trim, porches, etc.)
- Yard clean-up and maintenance
HopeBUILDERS may undertake the following with professional partners, if available (please contact us if you are willing/able to assist in this area)
- Roof repairs or replacement
- Attic insulation
- Major plumbing and electrical
- Heating and cooling system repairs
- Retaining walls and foundations
HopeBUILDERS is unable to perform the following work with volunteers, except as noted above
- Commercial buildings, including churches
- Outbuildings without prior management/board approval, including detached garages
- Roof or foundation repairs (see above)
Other Guidelines
- Major projects may be approved with partnering donors and professionals – longer waiting period (see above).
- No appliance repairs except if only minor adjustments are needed.
